Hi (MS ACCESS 2003, file format 2002/03)
i am using LARGE PROGRAM-(NOT-DATA) DATABASE MDB/MDE
MDB = cca. 15-18 MB, MDE = cca. 9MB
3 class modules 217 KB, 16 MODULES 5.05 MB, 3 REPORTS, 8 FORMS
Help,...There are PERMANET CRASHES(100 Reported to MICROSOFT) !!!!
I have tryed different setings
Compile on Demand,Backgroud compile,..but after some Time Crashes !!!
-------------------------------------
There are COMPILE ERRORS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
strSQL = "select * from [" & lcTAbleNAme & "] where ...." & lcWhere & "...."
After compile, the string is SHORTEN
CNN.Execute strSQL
Debug.print =
strSQL = "select * from ["

if you're experiencing data corruption- you'd be best off if you moved
to SQL Server

SQL Server doesn't corrupt itself; and Jet just wasn't designed for
multiple users.
Jet doesn't even support half the networks in the real world.

File, New, Project (existing data) in Access 2003

My database is NOT REALLLY CORRUPT.
After Rebuilding and Compiling it works ON 80-100 %...
Problem is After TOO MANY COMPILING...
then comes ACCESS-CRASH
I can then STOP the Main Form Start
All Rebuilding
and it works fine.
My Opinion there must be something
WRONG in Microsoft-Compile background
This DECOMPILE command works NOT !

Tony Toews has an excellent web page on database corruption.
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm

Allen Brown also has excellent info on corruption.
http://allenbrowne.com/ser-47.html

I have a white paper in a Word document named Fix Corrupt Access Database
towards the bottom this page:
http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/OtherLibraries.asp

With all those crashed, I would worry that there is something wrong with the
network if the database is stored out in a network folder.

Mr. Kempf, you are again advising a major change on the basis of your bias,
not on sufficient information from the user to diagnose the reasons for the
problem.
SQL Server doesn't corrupt itself;

SQL Server can become corrupt, also. That happens, at times, for different
reasons, and, at times, for similar reasons, but it does happen. If a Jet
database is being corrupted due to dropped network connections, then that
situation possibly could be alleviated by replacing the back end database
with an SQL Server database. But, unless there is an uncorrected defect,
neither Jet nor SQL Server "corrupts itself."
and Jet just wasn't designed for
multiple users.

Access and Jet work very nicely with multiple users... having multiple users
logged in to the same copy of the front end is not a good idea for a
database with either SQL Server or Jet. Each user should have their own copy
of the front end... this is independent of the back end database in use.
Jet doesn't even support half the networks in the
real world.

Database engines do not "support" networks, though they often are executed
in network environments.
File, New, Project (existing data) in Access 2003

This is not any longer the approach recommended by the Access team at
Microsoft for supporting server databases with Access. The approach of
using Access databases (MDB/ACCDB, Jet/ACE, and ODBC) is now recommended
because it is stable, simpler, and more secure than using Access Data
Projects (ADP).

there's no such thing as 'someone that should stay with jet'

I'm not rushing to judgement-- there is no decision other than JET
FUCKING SUCKS BECAUSE IT CORRUPTS. BECAUSE IT CRASHES.

Stop making excuses; if your database crashes, stop trying to talk
people OUT of moving to SQL Server
that's the problem-- if you guys wouldn't spread misinformation; I
wouldn't have to correct you guys.

SQL Server is simpler BECAUSE IT JUST WORKS

Mr. Kempf, the facts of the matter are: (1) Microsoft packages Access with
default-installed Jet and ACE database engines; (2) Microsoft expects most
users to use the default engines; (3) Microsoft is correct that, in most
cases, those default engines are perfectly adequate for the uses to which
Access is put; (4) Microsoft is also correct that, in most cases, those
default engines are perfectly adequate for the size of multiuser groups with
which Access databases are used; (5) in addition, however, for those
situations in which that is not the case, Microsoft provides the capability,
in several ways, for users to take advantage of server databases (and some
desktop databases) when that capability is needed, (6) but only you, sir,
are so obsessed that you think that server capability, and, at that, the
particular server DB that you know, is always needed, and the particular
client database format that you prefer. And, (7) it clearly is distressing
to you and brings you to an agitated state -- evidenced by the fact that you
resort to shouting (ALL CAPS), untruths, vulgarity, cliches, and mottos.

Perhaps you would be happier, and less agitated, if you participated in
newsgroups where most of the questions were not about Access and Jet or
Access and ACE. Are you aware that in this same group of
Microsoft-sponsored newsgroups there is a newsgroup,
microsoft.public.access.adp.sqlserver, and another newsgroup,
microsoft.public.access.odbc.clientsvr, where your knowledge of .ADP, MS SQL
Server, and your observations on ODBC, might be of benefit in solving
posters' problems instead of just engaging in fruitless argument?

I am certain you are sufficiently intelligent to realize that your rants in
this newsgroup are unlikely to have led even a single poster to convert to
MS SQL Server. Because had they done so, and been happy with it, you know
they would have posted back thanking you and telling you how your advice had
solved their problem and saved them time and effort.

message
there's no such thing as 'someone that should stay with jet'

I'm not rushing to judgement-- there is no decision other than JET
FUCKING SUCKS BECAUSE IT CORRUPTS. BECAUSE IT CRASHES.

Stop making excuses; if your database crashes, stop trying to talk
people OUT of moving to SQL Server
that's the problem-- if you guys wouldn't spread misinformation; I
wouldn't have to correct you guys.

SQL Server is simpler BECAUSE IT JUST WORKS

ADP was the most popular format for most of this decade. Go File, New,
and count the options for ADP vs MDB.
DAO wasn't included with Office, Windows or MDAC for most of a decade.

Jet is not the default engine.

It is an obsolete engine.
And just because Microsoft brought 'Access back down to the lowest
common denominator' that does NOT mean that it is a reliable platform.

SQL Server is _EASIER_ development and _BETTER_ development because
SQL Server inherently supports CODE REUSE.

Jet does not.

I don't think that you can sit there and say that I am not
intelligent-- just because i _CHOOSE_ to use the worlds most popular
database.

NOBODY EVERY GOT FIRED FOR USING SQL SERVER.
and PLENTY of people have gotten fired for using Jet.

I got fired back in 2001 because I liked Jet. I wasn't adapting to
the needs of my company.

Ever since then-- I'll be damned if I let people sit by and spread
misinformation about SQL Server.
