I think it has gone for good unless you had a backup.
Strange the support person did not mention this before
you did the delete. If you have lots of $'s there are
companies that sell file recovery software - try a Google
search.
Excel should not open with Personal.XLS displayed. This
file is normally hidden and opened only when you want to
add macros to it. Book1 is the normal default file.
