Phantom email accounts won't go away

We have a strange problem with phantom email accounts that won't go
away. E.g. users occasionally send a message to a global distribution
list and will get a bounced back message saying that one of the
recipinets could not be found - someone who has not worked here for
over a year and has long since been removed from Active Directory.

Also, occasionally someone will send a messge to a global distribution
list and the list name autocompletes in the message address line
enclosed in tick marks - e.g. 'Marketing' - and if it appears in tick
marks it will always bounce back saying the group could not be find.
Try again and it shows up without tick marks and it works fine.

We had this happen a lot with everyone's email addresses shortly after
we upgraded from Exchenge 5.5 to Exchange 2000 2 years ago but we had
everyone delete the incorrect popup tips that appear with the name in
tick marks and that took care of most of the problems, but lately it's
happening a lot more frequently again.

Here's what I've tried so far:

1. The one long-gone user who keeps popping up in bounced back
messages has been deleted everywhere I can find to do so in Active
Directory and is not in local contacts on the PCs of the people
reporting the problem. Same with the global distribution lists that
are affected.

2. I deleted and recreated the global distribution lists in Active
Directory

3. I searched for *.NK2 Outlook cache files on the PCs of the people
reporting the problem and deleted them.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Tom Esker
