Phantom Personal Folder

M

Michael Brown

I have recently had to reformat my laptop and reinstall Outlook 2003. When I
copied the pst file that I backed up into the default location I ended up
having 2 sets of personal folders-both identical in content. The 2nd
personal folders was refusing to close and I get the error message "The set
of folders could not be opened." whenever I click on it ,either to delete or
close. I have run the scanpst.exe program as suggested in the help file but
although this stated that it repaired some files I am still stuck with a
second icon of personal folders that will not disappear.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael
In the control panel click mail and there you can press the button in the
middle of this option field.
you could choose wich Personal Folder you wanted to delete.
After restarting outlook you have only one personal folder

You have corrupted your mailprofile this way and need to be recreated (do
not copy it);

Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles

To access your current pst-file in the new profile;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

To set it as the default delivery location;
Tools-> E-mail Accounts...-> button Next-> use the dropdownlist below

I am having this same problem. However, Control Panel >
Mail > Data Files only shows a single personal file. So
there isn't anything to delete. Inside OL 2003, two
personal folds show; that are identical. Because they
are pointing to the exact same pst file, I can't right
click and "close" either entry. I could use some help
with this myself!

You need to create a new mail profile using Control Panel's Mail applet.
