photo downloads

I created a website in Frontpage 2002. The largest photo is 300k, yet, once I
posted the site, the download time is soooo slow. Even when clicking on
thumbnails I created using auto-thumbnail, the picture starts out huge, then
pops down to fit the screen. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dawn

300K is generally way too large for an image in a web page. The total size
of your page, all images included, would ideally be less than 100K. I would
use a graphics editor tyo reduce the size of the image in bytes. If it is
large in dimensions, I would reduce that as well.

Use an image editor such as the free IrfanView www.irfanview.com to resize / resample the images to
the size you want to actually display. You can also change the "quality" setting for a .jpg when
saving after a resize. 75% will "normally reduce the file size considerably without changing image
quality.

Also, the automatic resizing you see is a function of the browser that needs be disabled / enabled
by the viewer. It's located in Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet options > Advanced.

I think they were talking about the IE 6 automatic "image resize" function.
I always keep it disabled.

If the autothumb is 'popping down' in size, you didn't create a thumbnail...or if you did it's
waaaayy too big - dimension-wise.

it is loading at "full size" by which I mean the full dimensions of the image,
then Internet Explorer has the ability to reduce the size to fit the browser
window.

If you roll the mouse over, it comes up with an icon which if you click it, will
give you the "full size" image again.

By the way, 300k is very large for a photo.
