Photo Editor "Unknown File Format" errors

I have XP SP2, Office 2003 with Photo Editor v3.0.2.3. Whenever I try to
open jpg files with PE, either received in an email or taken with my digital
camera, I get an "Unknown File Format" error message. I tried unistalling,
rebooting, and reinistalling but still get the same error. I can open the
jpgs fine with Paint or other programs; not sure why PE stopped opening them.
Any ideas?

From that link, the only applicable option I had was to reinstall Photo
Editor from my Office XP CD. I did that per the instructions, but when I try
to open jpgs or gifs I still get the same error message - "unknown file
format". Is there somewhere I can download Picture Manager or do I need to
upgrade Office XP?

picture mgr is in office 2003.

the upgrade for it would be the office 2007 but
this is still in beta now.

possibly the updates for office 2003 may
have picture mgr but i am not sure.

if you cannot get picture manager,
simply consider using something else off the web.

photo editor has been superceeded by many
freewares.

the only time i use picture manager is to display the content
of the folders via file manager. otherwise, i don't waste anytime
with it for editing. when i do, i use photoshop elements.

the free ones that i have explored and pretty good to use are gimp and
paint.net
the others are ok too and are designed with different criterias.

if you really like to have fun and potentianl with photos,
buy something like from adobe or corel or microsoft.
but before you do you can explore the above first.
