I get a background for the thumbnails, but just a white background for the
image. How can I change that to a colored background?

Sorry, the FrontPage Photo Gallery doesn't have this feature.

When the visitor clicks a thumbnail, the FrontPage Photo Gallery links
directly to the full-sized picture file. To display a background color (or to
center the picture) the Photo Gallery would need to link to a Web page that
displayed the picture.
