pics not visible on document, but visible when printing.

hello everyone, when i add pics/graphics on my document they do not show.
sometimes some do and some dont. and sometimes just none at all. but they
are there. and when i print the document they are fine. they just dont show
when im working on the doc.

word 2003

any help would be appreciated.
