PICTURE DISAPPEAR WHEN SCROLLING DOWN/UP THE PAGE

Since installing Windows SP2, pictures disppear in Word
2002 when I scroll between pages. They print ok and if I
select picture format and reselect "No Fill" they appear
again until scroll of the page again.

I'm also having the same problem. Sometimes the inserted picture is
visible, sometimes it isn't, but it can always be brought back. The
problem's also apparent when switching between normal mode & print preview.

Any ideas about a solution would be appreciated.

TIA.

Wercs,
I have found that I can solve the problem by altering the
Graphics card hardware acceleration down to the level
where it is not using Direct X, no good if you want to
play games though. My graphics card is a ATI radeon
9600. Did your problem only appear after installing SP2?

Andy,
Thanks for the suggestion.
Seems we have the same graphics hardware.
Indeed, turning down HA to disable DX has resolved the problem, which I
think did only appear after SP2 installation.
Perhaps MS (or ATI) will produce a fix?

I had the same problem, and that fixed it. I think it's more than
just an ATI problem.

We're using Dell Optiplex gx280 with on-board Intel 82915g cards.
They were experiencing the same problem you mentioned, and the same
fix corrected it.

I had the exact same problem and i had to turn down the graphic accellerator.
That makes me very mad as i need direct x. Is microsoft working on a patch or
something to fix this? Are they aware of the problem?

I have the same problem. There should be a better solution than dumbing down
a graphics accelerator.

Our Dell Optiplex GX280s with on-board Intel 82915g video adapters have
the same problem, and turning down the graphics acceleration resolved
the issue (pictures now appear in Word 2002).

I agree that dumbing down the graphics accelerator is a terrible
solution- everyone with this issue should report the problem to
Microsoft. I also plan to report it to Dell and will post any feedback
I receive.

For ALL OF US who have to turn down the acceleration rate in order to view
the pictures, should contact Microsoft and DEMAND a solution. I had emailed
Microsoft once with no answer and I will contact support on line again this
time because ATI had been troubleshooting my problem since end of Dec and
updated drivers, no problem found with the 9600 card. They figured it is
Direct X problem that I have to contact Microsoft for solution.

Intel has confirmed that it is a problem with their driver for the
82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family of display adapters. They say
that they will address the problem in a new release of the driver.

If anyone having this problem will email me the service tag for your
PC, we can demonstrate clearly to Dell that the problem is occurring on
many PCs (I have an open incident with Dell regarding this issue).
Reducing the graphics acceleration a level below that which DirectX
uses is a temporary workaround.

Thanks for your help!

I had my problem fixed, now I can turn acceleration to full and see all the
pictures and graphic. I have ATI Raedon 9600 graphic card, ATI had been
trying to troubleshoot since end of Dec with no solution, and asked me to go
to Microsoft for Direct X problem, I had contacted Microsoft but with no
reply. Last week I used CAT UNINSTALL file from ATI site and completely
uninstall all the previous drivers, then reinstall the newest driver issued
from January, at the beginning it did not seem to solve the problem but now
the problem is fine.

Many thanks Ginch. I've been keeping an eye on this thread for some time
hoping for a solution. I too had been fobbed off by ATI.
I followed your instructions and the problem was fixed after the second
restart. Thanks again.

Andrew, I am glad that solves your problem too. I posted the solution on the
web but no one seems to see it yet. It didn't work for me the first time too,
I had sent the solution to ATI and received no reply.

Although the problem was fixed following the driver install it's now back
again. Anyone else found this?

Andrew,

It happened to me just the other day too. But it's OK now, I adjusted the
acceleration down one notch from full, then returned to the same document and
the pictures were fine. Then I turned the aceleration back to full, restart
my computer. No more problem.

This happened one time before when I opened the document from my folders
instead of from the most recent document listing on the right hand side pane.
What I did was closed word and reopen, then pick from the listing instead of
from the folder, no more problem.

When it happened this time, I did open from the listing, but I had renamed
the document and it could not find the path and the problem reoccured. That's
why I adjusted acceleration one notch down, back to full and restart. It has
been fine since then. And I have no idea why it only works that way, but so
far it's back to normal. Can anyone figured this one out?
