Hi all

In word 2K3 SP1

Have a document with a graphic, when I load the document
the picture is visible, but as soon as I scroll down past
the picture and scroll back up, the picture is gone, but
the placeholder is still there.

Close the document and re-open, picture still there.
It is a mall little picture.

Have you recently installed Windows XP SP2?
It appears that SP2 changes something involving Direct X, which causes
problems with some video cards.

The workaround is to turn down Hardware Acceleration (Control Panel >
Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot) until the problem goes away.
This means you won't be getting the full performance of the video card you
paid for, but that's Microsoft updates for you.

Hopefully your video card manufacturer will have an updated driver
available now or in the near future so you can go back to full Hardware
Acceleration.
