picture editor

How can I change the default picture editor in MS Word 2003?

I want to convert a drawing canvas into a picture. Previous versions of Word
used to open a new window to draw or edit pictures and had a "close" button.
When I edit a picture now. It turns into a drawing canvas and there seems to
be no way to turn it back into a picture again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You should find the button for opening Word's internal picture editor in
Tools/Customize/Commands, in the "Drawing" category.

That was not what I asked for?

Think about text boxes and wordarts grouped together and been made a
"picture". (don't know how) A picture that contains tens of items in it but
still is a one, unified, a whole single "picture".

You right click on the picture and click on "Edit Picture". The picture
disassembles itself. You can see and edit all the tiny pieces in it in the
drawing canvas that opens up. That's OK for so far. The problem is making it
a single picture again. No way.

When I go to Tools/Customize/Commands and to the "Drawing" category. I found
a button which opens Word's internalpicture editor. I can make new drawings
in it and yes indeed it has a Close button. What good will it do if it
doesn't open the existing picture in Word?

I didn't want to open the internal editor. I want the internal editor to
open the existing picture as it did in the previous versions of Word; if not
I wanted to change the default picture editor so that "the new editor" could
open the existing picture.

Maybe I was not clear enough, sorry for that but the problem is still there
and I still need help.

Thank You.

Actually, it was. You wanted to know how to get back into the Picture editor,
as you used to. That's the information I gave you.

When you've clicked "Close", your "many pieces" become a single picture, and
when you double-click it the next time, it should re-open in the picture
editor. Or, you can select it, then click the button.
