Picture effects for PowerPoint 2007

Hi. It seems that some of my pictures wont allow me to apply special effects
to them but some will. If I paste in screenshots for example, or use some of
the .bmps in my collection, then everythign works fine. but some of the
..bmps dont work and most of my .jpgs dotn seem to work either. help is no
help of course. what is the required format to apply custom picture effects
that are not in the default gallery?

Could you give us some specifics as to what you're trying to do?

For example,
On a blank slide layout, I used Insert | Picture and inserted one of my
vacation photos, which was a JPG.

I selected the JPG on the size and dragged the corner to size it. It's about
5" x 5" now.

With the JPG still selected, I went to Picture Tools Format, chose Picture
Effects, Soft Edges, 50 point, and my picture looks the same.

Are you pasting into placeholders on the slide? (They're the boxes that say
"click to add text" and similar.)
