I believe you can do this by going to Tools/File Types and checking the
extensions you want to have Picture Manager open. At least that is what
happens on my machine.

Give it a try.

It worked. Thanks.

Which program is used to open Tools? For instance, Tools in Word doesn't
offer File Types.

Windows is the program in question. Try opening something like "My
Documents" to get a Windows window.

Problem arises with tif/tiff files. Computer using Office XP SB offers only
Win Pic & Fax Viewer to open them - which it doesn't ("No preview
available"). Jpeg files OK.
Another computer has Office Pro, offers W&F Viewer plus Picture Manager and
also Document Imaging, which both work with TIF/TIFF. It's possible these
are not available in the SB edition. But if they are, I can't find how to
access them as they don't seem to be an option that I can find.

Try www.irfanview.com It is a free viewer, get the plug-ins too, some extensions need
the plug-ins.

Hi Laurie,

Irfanview is a separate program that can be used to
view, print, resize etc various graphic formats, including TIFF.

MS Office Document Imaging is an optional install choice in
Office XP and Office 2003 listing in Add/Remove Programs in
the Windows Control Panel.

MS Office Picture Manager is also an optional install choice
but only in Office 2003.

Picture Manager (Start=>Programs=>Microsoft Office Tools) has
a settings option that lets you allow that app to be the default
one for various graphic file types.

Both PCs have Win XP Home, one with Office SB, , other with Office Pro.
Latter PC has both MS Doc Imaging and Picture Manager offered in response to
"Open With" for a file. But on neither PC is either option is to be seen in
Control Panel - Add & Delete Progs - MS Components. So where did they come
from?

Dear Mary,
Sorry - I rather stupidly looked on your site instead of irfanview as you
quite clearly suggested. Have now downloaded irfanview, and it works
beautifully. Thank you, thank you!

Have now found an alternative program (Irfanview) as suggested by Mary Sauer,
and it opens my difficult files without flinching. To hell with MS, but
heartfelt thanks to all of you who trid to help.

Hi Laurie,

In Add/Remove Programs choose the Microsoft Office
Small Business Edition and select Change. From there
use the Add/Remove Features choice (Advanced Options box
checked if Office 2003) and you can add the Picture Manager
and or MS Office Document Imaging optional features from there.

I followed your advice about using Add/Remove Programs. Sadly, the programs
I was looking for aren't listed under Shared Features or any of the other
component folders. Particularly, they aren't in Office Tools, which is where
they are in my XP Professional edition.

So maybe something's faulty in the SB edition I have. But, as I said in my
previous posting, it doesn't matter because I now have this other marvellous
(Irfanview) program.

Once again, thank for your help.

MS Office 2003 Pro . WindowsXP Pro
I have been trying to get MOPM to open my JPG files.
I went to My computer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types
I could not find Microsoft Office Picture Manager in the ' registered File
types ' box
I then clicked ' New ', and entered jpg as the file extension, clicked ‘
Advanced ‘
MOPM was not listed there either.

Hi Chequer,

If you use the Tools=>File Types
menu choice in MS Office Picture Manager
can you set the JPG choice there?

You may want to reboot the machine if it is listed there but not working and also try a repair/reinstall of Office 2003 from
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel if that does not correct it.
