Picture quality

I'm importing pictures and it seems like the quality isn't as good as it
could be.

What do I need to do to make the best quality pictures on a site?

How are you importing them, just using the File > Import and then inserting
them into the page? I ask because some people try pasting them into a web
page from another application and this doesn't lead to the best quality as
FrontPage edits the photo in this case and it just wasn't designed for it
like a true photo editor like PhotoShop would be.

One of the things to keep in mind, normal photos used in web sites are a
much lower dpi than what we would want for a photo to use for print
purposes. For example, most photos on the web are 96 or 72 dpi. A good photo
that we would put into the family album is more like 600 dpi, which is a
much better picture than what is useful for the web.

I had trouble after dragging and dropping them because FP didn't recognize
their existence so I was told to import them in FP.

How can I handle it if I drag and drop them and then FP doesn't "see" them
in the folder?

I was importing them with FP, but Steve'd message suggests that will not
make the best quality and when I have dragged and dropped them sometimes FP
doesn't recognize their existence.

Seems FP still has it's quirks, but I'd like to learn how to use it better.

Importing from a location on your hard drive into your web (such as images
folder) will work just fine. Then, you insert on a page and save.

Also, do not use FP to resize the image by dragging the image box, use
a dedicated image program to resize the images before you pull them
into the web folder...
