Picture Styles Group-trying to change shape of picture

When I click on image, Picture Tools come up but the Picture Styles group
doesn't. There are other groups, but not that one. And I need that one to
change the shape of a picture. Help.

Hi SLB,

Is the file saved in .doc format or in compatibility mode? (i.e. is there a 'convert' choice listed under the Office button with
that file open?)

The Picture Styles are not avaiable for legacy (.doc) documents. If there is a 'convert' choice, the Picture Styles should be
available once up up-convert the document.

If you work in .doc format you might want to consider using Insert=>Shape then filling the shape with the picture. You can change
shapes that way, even in compatibility mode.

I work in Word 2007 (have Office Professional 2007), and the document is
saved in .docx w/ "maintain compatability w/ Word 97-2003" checked. the odd
thing about this problem is that it was there with another .docx format
document, but not with the one I am currently working on. Also, when I click
on dialog box launchers, only the Format Picture window comes up with basic
picture features--size, layout, etc. for all dialog box launchers on ribbon.
Where is Picture Styles group. Is it somewhere where it might have been
disabled for some reason in 2007 version? This is very odd. How can it be
there one time and not another? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Forgot to mention. I went in and added Picture Styles and Picture Shape in
upper icon ribbon next to save, etc. icons, but they are both in grey and
stay that way even when I click a picture image. So, they are not available
that way either. Can't seem to move them to lower ribbon where the launchers
are.

Again, forgot. And the only thing that is not greyed in the Picture Style
group is borders. Shape and effects are still greyed.

Hi SLB,

When you have the 'maintain compatibility' box checked it's telling Word to use the new, compressed document format but to treat it
as though it was a Word 2003 document, so the 2007 unique features are turned off.

If you see a 'convert' button on the Office menu when the document is open then you can up-convert to the full 2007 feature set for
use.

A number of the features accessed through the Ribbon have prior versions counterparts so when you choose one of them you get
'choices' but they're not necessarily the same 'choices' you get when you're not in compatibility mode. For example,
Insert->SmartArt, in compatibility mode brings up the Word 2003 Diagramming choice rather than the SmarArt collection.
