Pictures disappear in Office XP

When I try to place a picture into PowerPoint or Word the
placeholder will appear but the picture goes to the bottom
of the screen, on the task bar. This is the weirdest
thing I have ever encountered. Has anyone else ever had
this happen. I am running Office XP on a Windows 98
computer.

Any help would be apreciated.

Hi Gary,

By any chance, are you using the cut & paste method for pictures from the
web? It is far better to save any pictures to the Hard Drive first, then
insert via Insert | picture from file method. It takes a little more time
in building the presentation, but will offer less complications and save
time in the long run.

Alternately, if cut & paste is really important to you; you can paste the
picture into Photo Editor (or some other photo toy) then copy from there to
PowerPoint.

No actually It does this on clipart or pictures I have saved on my hard drive. I was thinking there could be a conflict with another program such as a digital camera

I'm not near an Office XP machine at this time, but here are the things I'd
look into.

I've never run into a Camera conflict within PowerPoint. Have you installed
new software since pictures displayed correctly? are you using any
antivirus software with Office file scanning (Norton does this until you
unselect it)?

Does your system have adequate resources available (not RAM choked)? Have
you done all the stuff suggested in ...
**Do this before using PowerPoint seriously

When you click on the button in the task bar, what pops up? What
application is it? Is the picture displayed?

Actually you can barely see the picture at the bottom of
the screen. Even after you close PowerPoint the icture
still remains at the bootm of the screen. You can't move
it or do anything with it at this point but reboot. This
was a fresh install of Office XP after deleting Works on a
98 system. This problem is for all Office apps.

This was a fresh install of Office XP. Deleted old Works
first. This problem of the disappearing pics is for all
the Office apps. I will check the antivirus suggestion.

Ah. All applications in Office. Have you tried a Detect and Repair? If
that doesn't work then you may need to uninstall and reinstall Office.

By the way, you said that you "deleted" Works. Did you actually delete it,
or did you uninstall it?

Uninstalled Works. I was leaning towards uninstalling
Office XP and reinstalling it. I was hoping maybe someone
had encountered this condition before. I appreciate your
time and effort in helping to resolve this issue.

When something doesn't function properly and it's seen in all Office
applications, then my guess is that something is wrong with the
installation. Detect and Repair is worth a shot though. Open PowerPoint
2002 and go to Help > Detect and Repair.
