Pictures do not appear, just black boxes - Word 2007

I have received a word document with images. These images are a scan of a
document, the images have been pasted into a word document.
When I open the doc all I see is black boxes, they are the same size as the
original image.
I passed them to a friend running Office 2003, he opens the same doc and can
view the images no problem at all.
I have been to the trouble shooting pages, ensured view images in doc is
selected etc. still all I see are those black boxes.
Can anyone help please?

Ice I am trying to figure out; this website; I see the questions people post
but how do I access the replies? see nothing on the window where questions
are entered? This is good info source but the devil to use (in my humble
opinion_ Thanks for your help.

Each thread will have a + sign beside it if it has replies, just click the +
and it will drop down the original post, and as in this thread your question,
then my reply.
Just click on my reply and you can read it.
