Pictures in Word 2008

I have many files that where created in Office 2003. All them have the same heading with an image. The image in the heading has suddenly disappeared in all the documents! The body of each document is different. Some documents have images in the body. Those images display fine.

The image in the header will display in Print Preview, but not in any other mode. When I try to replace the picture in the heading with another copy either by inserting or copy paste ... NOTHING! I can click on it and see the outline but nothing else.

Why would this happen suddenly to hundreds of files?

It most likely isn't a change in the "hundreds of files" so much as it is a
change to one or more of several Preferences settings in Word, itself. Go
into Word> Preferences ‹ View & make sure the boxes are checked for
"Drawings" as well as "Background colors & images in Print Layout View" but
that there is no check on "Image Placeholders".

If those settings don't resolve the issue it is most likely being caused by
the manner the documents and/or the image were created & handled. If you can
provide detailed specifics about the nature & history of the source files&
the image perhaps someone can provide some insights.

BTW: I believe \you're referring to the image being in the document
*Header*, not in the *Headings* ‹ that's an important distinction because
both terms are used in the Word environment & each has a specific meaning.
