Pictures in Word

How can I insert a picture in Word, and not have the text forced out of the
way?

Depending on what you mean by "forced out of the way":

1. If you want the text to wrap around the picture (instead of having the
picture sticking up like a sore thumb in the middle of the text), change the
wrapping style from In Line With Text to Square or Tight and set the various
wrapping options ("Distance from text," for example) as needed.

2. If you want the text to be in front of the picture, change its wrapping
to Behind Text. If you're sending it behind text because it's a watermark
(an image you want in the background of every page), insert it in the
header. With wrapping set to Behind Text, you can place it anywhere on the
page, but because it's anchored to the header paragraph, it will repeat on
every page.
