pitures in emails not visible

Hi
My out look has just got a problem, it will not show pictures /graphics in
emails.
This is emails from friends marked as safe etc or when I click on the email
to say down load picture, they all have a small red cross in the top left
hand corner.

Any advise is welcome

tried that and it hasn't worked.
even though what it described is what is wrong.
