Pivot Table display

I have created a pivot table which includes a field that has many empty
cells. In the pivot table all these empty cells appear with "(blank)"
written in them. Is it possible to suppress this?

Yep.

Select one of those cells with (blank) in it and hit the space bar.

You may want to look at Debra Dalgleish's pivottable addin.
