pivot table field sorting!

hi

I) i am having dates in COL A of my table.
when i go in for pivot table for that table
i can't sort the dates in ascending order
eventhough the ascending order option
is selected.

instead the dates are in the order say

01/06/2006
01/07/2006
01/08/2006
02/06/2006
02/07/2006
02/08/2006
