Pivot Table forms and Query with Criteria

I had created a query with the following criteria

([forms]![2Main Switchboard]![combo_YTD_year_Select])

but when I try to use the Pivot Wizard to create a pivot
table and try to do the Layout, a popup window shows up
and says "PROBLEMS OBTAINING DATA".

When I remove the criteria from the query, the pivot table
is created successfully.

The problem is that, I need the criteria in the query
since it allows the user to select the date range they
want for the underlying data by using a combo box in an
opened form.

Can anybody help as to how I can create a pivot table from
a query created by using criteria from a combo box on
another opened form.
