Pivot table - how to get two data fields shown in two columns

In the Excel 2002 web document '25 easy PivotTable reports'
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010346331033.aspx) in the
section headed 'What percent is a specific order of the total order amounts?'
there is an illustration of how to get two data fields in a report shown in
two columns.

When I try to do it in Excel 2003 the two fields are shown in one column,
with the items in pairs on top of each other. For what I want this is a
clumsy way of showing the data, and makes the report twice as long as it need
be.

Can I get Excel 2003 to show the two fields in two columns with the items in
pairs beside each other?

Hopefully,

You've probably got a Pivot Table with three columns, the first is your row
header, the second labeled 'data' and the third labeled 'total'. Click in
the cell labeled 'Data', drag to the cell labeled 'total' and release.
