How can I make a bar chart with a pivot table and add a line in it which has
the average value running across and also a median line running across, is

AFAIK, not possible in a pivot chart. However, you can use another
worksheet to copy the pivot table data and add additional columns for
plotting average, median, etc. This will give you the flexibility you
seek for the chart.
