Pivot Tables:

I went to select the rows with subtotals and change the format.. that is
colour all of those similar rows.

Can't seem to find out how to do this. I think it is related to Field
Settings which allows me to have the subtotals

Before formatting the subtotals, use the selection feature to select the
cells.
(Depending on your version of Excel, you may also have to enable
selection. From the Pivot toolbar, choose PivotTable>Select,
and click on Enable Selection)
For example, move the pointer to the left of a subtotal heading in the
pivot table. When the black arrow appears (like the one that appears
when the pointer is over a row button), click to select the subtotal
rows in the pivot table.
Then apply the formatting.

Thank you so much.. It is the part you wrote in brackets that has stumped me
for months. My excel at work woul not allow me to select but my excel at home
did and I could not figure it out, nor could anyone I asked. This is a big
breakthru.

You're welcome! Thanks for letting me know that the Enable Selection tip
helped.
