I want to set up a data base whic lifts the surce data for the pivot table
from one workbook to feed a pivot table in another workbook. Therefore can I
use a named range for a dynamic data source that that resides in a seperate
workbook that is nt necessarily open if so how.

If you use the dynamic ranges, the source workbook must be open.

Instead, you can base the pivot table on an external data source, and
use the sheet references, instead of the named ranges. These will
automatically expand to include the new rows added to the source data.
