Placement of multliple frames - Word won't allow movement either

Using: MSWord 2000 (9.0.6926 SP-3) on Windows 2000

In my document I wish to place two figures, both figures being large enough
that I would like to place each on its own page. I have used manual page
breaks to create a page for each image.

Since I wish to be able to reference the captions, I have placed the image
(GIF file) into a text box, inserted a caption into the text box, and then
converted the text box to a frame. This works well.

When I place the second image on its own page and follow the same procedure
as above, the newly created frame is removed from its own page and dropped on
top of the first frame and there doesn't seem to be any way that I can move
it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Any floating object (text box, frame) must be anchored to a text paragraph,
even if empty. You need a text paragraph on the second page to anchor your
frame to.

Several more points:

1. If you restore the Frame command to the Insert menu, you can create
frames directly instead of having to convert text boxes. There is also an
Insert Frame button on the Forms toolbar.

2. Since you have to have a text paragraph to anchor the frame to anyway,
you might as well use it for the caption. In fact, since the requirement of
a text paragraph prevents text from wrapping around your graphic and
caption, there's no real reason not to have the graphic In Line With Text as
well.

3. Although you can define a style for your graphic (or caption, whichever
comes first) that is formatted as "Keep with next," an easy way to keep
graphics and captions together is to insert them into a one-column, two-row
borderless table.

Thanks Suzanne, your hint did the trick.

I am having another (small) problem. The figures that I am placing into the
table are GIF or JPG exported from CorelDraw.

When I place the figures in the table (no borders) the top of the image
sometimes gets clipped. Is there a table parameter that I can set that will
place a border around the cell contents?

Thanks,

You can select borders for a table through Table AutoFormat or with a table
style, but it's pretty easy to apply a box border to selected cells using
the Borders button on the Formatting toolbar.

Hmmm, nothing that I try seems to do the trick.

I have tried "no borders" on both the entire table and on the cell in
question (the one containing the GIF image) and the clipping still occurs. I
should note that the clipping occurs with borders as well.

The mystery deepens ....

You asked about borders, not about clipping. Is your table row height set to
an Exact amount?
