placing pictures "in line with text"

I would like to have some diagrams in my Word document
layed out "in line with text" but this option is greyed
out.

At first I thought it was a problem because I was trying
to past a linked object but the option isn't available for
the basic independent bitmap or jpeg image either.

I have tried placing a new picture (just a screen shot)
into an empty document and still have no luck with the "in
line with text" option.

What is causing "in line with text" option to be greyed
out / unavailable?

Thanks in advance.

Hi KT,

When you paste a picture into Word, "in line with text" is the default. So
I'm not surprised you can't change a newly-pasted picture to this - you'd
have to choose one of the other options first.

Cheers

I've tried all the other placement location options:
behind text; tight wrap; through etc. But I never have the
option "In line with text" available - even in the
Advanced Layout window.

I've tried starting a new document after restarting Word -
but this doesn't make a difference.

Any ideas?
TIA.

If this is a drawing object (as opposed to a photo or clip art) then you
can't make it inline in most Word versions.
