plain text in reading pane.

I have a user who is using Outlook 2003 and is having trouble viewing plain
text messages in the reading pane. Instead of plain text is uses squares in
place of letters.When he replies the text is fine. I tried reinstalling
Office and checked all settings.

WHat font has he chosen for the Reading Pane? Tools>Options>Mail
Format>Fonts. Examine "When composing and reading plain text"
