Plain Text Vs HTML format

My incoming emails are all in Plain Text despite having set my preference to
HTML. What am I forgetting/missing.

'Tools|Options|Read' uncheck "Read all messages in Plain Text".

The box is not checked, and all emails are still coming in as plain text. Any
other suggestions?
