Playing Quicktime dv file in Presentation

B

Barry Goldberg

A client has supplied me with a clip in Quicktime dv format. I need to play
parts of it in a powerpoint presentation but although I can play it on my
desktop- PPT seems to only want to use windows media to play the file... not
QT. I cannot find a setting anywhere for this. CAn anyone help?

Thanks

You will need to change the file associations for he media type to the QT
Player. Right click the file, select Open With, select QT, and then check
the check box for "Always use this program to open this type file".

Thanks Austin- but that is already the case. The windows settings are to
always play the file with QT- but the error message I get in PPT is that
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. Does PPT have another place it
looks for this kind of thing?

If it has to be a QuickTime file, you will have to hyperlink to it,
rather than Insert > Movies and Sounds. That will get it to open in the
QuickTime player. If you want to use Insert > Movies and Sounds, so it
opens seamlessly in PowerPoint, you will have to convert it to another
format or buy a Mac.

Ok, let's start with the basics. If this is a QuickTime file go to Insert >
Object and then check the radio button "Create From File". This should
give you a browse window. Navigate to the video file and select it. Ok
your way out and you should be good to go.
