Playing sound across slides

I'm trying to play a .wav file across all slides in a presentation. I've
completed all the usual steps and it just won't work!!

Background:
PPT 2007 for PC
PPT 2008 for MAC
(I've tried it in both)

Music:
MP3 and .wav (again, tried both)

I've set it to:
"Play across slides"
"Stop playing after 999 slides"

Regardless, after I click to move to the next slide, the sound file just
stops.

Any thoughts???
