How can this be possible for the summary of Remaining Work? The total should
be 13 hours not 193? There are no other indented tasks.

Summary Task: Project Close-out 193 hrs
Assess customer satisfaction 2 hrs
Review planning template / adjust based on lessons learned 2 hrs
Review and recognize team performance 2 hrs
"Archive the project records (MS Project server, Prosite, other)" 3 hrs
Draft and submit Project Closing Report to Project Executive 4 hrs

I found it! Originally someone had it as an individual task with 180 hours
of resources assigned to it and then added tasks below it by indenting the
tasks. The indent forced the original task into a summary state but did not
change any of the resource hours. I guess you get what you ask for in
project. I wish I could find the original project manager would did
that...I've been going crazy trying to figure it out. Now I know what to
look for when it happens again.

Thanks to anyone who read my thread...sorry If I wasted your time.

As I recall, that was a bug which I think they have fixed. Do you have the
latest service release?

The_WI_Cheezer,

Yes, you solved your problem but there's a general lesson here that should not escape you.

A quick scan down the "Resource Names" column should reveal no resources in bold lettering (i.e. no resources assigned to summary tasks). This check would have quickly found your specific problem and prevented all your frustration. For the long term, make this check a routine part of the sanity checking that you do to insure the integrity of your all of project plans. Just remember: "No resources on Summary Tasks".

Hi Ed,

I would personally recommend using the Summary Tasks filter and then check the Resource Names column - I think this is a more positive check and cannot possibly miss one summary.
