When I try to install Office XP Pro. I get Error 1402. I have tried to
resolve this with the info on the Microsoft help pages with no luck. All the
info there is for Windows 98 and Office 2000 and above. But anyway here is
the total error message.

Error Message Start:
Error1402. Setup cannot open the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\IMAL.
Verify that you have permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft
Product Support Sevices....

Error Message End.

I am logged in as (administrator.)

Also the Windows Automatic Update can not update my Office files. Also I am
installing Office XP Pro. on top of a already installed copy of Office. My
operating system is Windows XP Pro.

Look Peter,

This is my first time here. I tried posting to one group with no
answer/reply. Instead of you complaining about how I post why don't you do
something more positive like help me with the problem I have? (Unless someone
made you are the Mulitposting Police.) If the people police-ing these forms
can not help me don't respond to my post. It is a waste of my time. I'm sure
you can find something better to do with your hands. For those of you that
are truly smart enough to help me solve this problem please feel free to post.

Thank you.

You feel your time is valuable and don't want it wasted, so you
should appreciate how inappropriate it is for you to waste the
time of the volunteers who answer questions in these newsgroups
by multiposting. The tone of your reply is also completely
inappropriate. The regulars here are from all over the world
(US, Europe, East Asia, Australia, etc.), so it may take 24 hours
or more for all of the regulars to see your question. Have a bit
of patience.

Why you should NOT multipost:
• Net traffic is reduced: Only one copy of your article
needs to flow to the thousands of Usenet servers. And the
thousands of people who read multiple groups have to download
only one copy, not FOUR.
• Your time is saved: You can look in one place to see all
replies.
• Other people's time is saved: When you multipost, people
in one group can't see answers in the other group, which results
in lots of duplication.
• Multiposting annoys lots of people. Some will tell you
about it; some will keep silent but put you in their kill files,
which means you lose the benefit of their answers to your
questions, forever.

Like I said before this is my first time posting. But I do thank you
"garfield-n-odie [MVP]" instead of just making an unnecessary comment you
gave me an explanation on why I should not mulitpost. I do apologize for the
multiposting. If someone comes here with a problem they must need it
repaired quickly. When I first posted I thought my problem would be solved
pretty qiuck. But I can see I over estimated everyones ability. Now I truly
believe in the saying "You get what you pay for."
