>> PLEASE HELP >> MY MS OFFICE HAS GONE??

When i upgraded my windows 98 to windows xp it has
somehow stopped me from using all the ms office
applications well this is what happens; - The excel
shortcut is on my desktop, when i click on it the message
comes up with the red cross (you know) it says that this
program needs to be installed before i can use it. BUT IT
WAS BEFORE I UPGRADED TO WINDOWS XP????

All the microsoft office setup/files/templates/documents
etc are still there in the microsoft office folder in the
program files section of my computer and all the comman
files are still there too.

I however noticed that in the add/remove programs dialog
box off the control pannel (which lists all the installed
programs) microsoft office isn't listed in there anymore.
Could that be causing the problem? if so how do i get it
back on that list?

I know what you are thinking 'can here reinstall office
using the office 2000 cds' ~ CANT BECAUSE I HAVEN'T GOT
THOSE DUE TO IT WAS ALLREADY ON MY COMPUTER WHEN I
BROUGHT IT.

PLEASE HELP thanks from

Go to the control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs ->
Microsoft Office (version number) Disk1 -> Change ->
Select either repair or reinstall.

You'll need your Office Media (CD) if it isn't on your
hard drive. You'll also find this problem with any Anti-
Virus or utility programs that you didn't uninstall before
upgrading to Windows XP.

Upgrading from 98 to XP is possible, but not recommended.
The preferred method that gives the best results is to
backup your data and do a clean install which formats the
hard drive before the install, so there's no remnants of
98 left behind and no application conflicts like this.

Contact the maker of the PC and find out how they suggest to reinstall the programs.

Or purchase a full version.

Without the original OEM CDs you are basically stuffed.
