please help quick line graoh plotting

want to plot one column against another in a line graph but all excel does is plot two separate lines against the Y axis and uses 1 2 3 4 etc for the x axis scale how do i fix this

It sounds like you either don't have labels for your rows of values or if you
do you didn't select them when you created the chart. As a result Excel
simply numbered the points sequentially since it had no other information to
go on.

You can delete the labels if you wish or you can go to Chart> Source Data -
Category (X) Axis Labels, then select the range of cells containing the
labeling you want to use. You may also have to click the Primary Horizontal
Axis "Show" button in the Axes part of the Chart Options group in teh
Formatting Palette.

Alternatively, you can just delete the chart, select the data range to
include the row labels & create a new chart.

Use an XY (Scatter) chart type, not a Line chart type.

After you create the chart, you can format the series to show lines and/or
markers.
