Pointer optinos don't work.

I've seen two similar posts here, but this one is different. In those
other posts, the pointer didn't work, period. In my case, it worked
fine in my office (I'm the only one in the office and the only one
using the computer. It's PPT 2003 on XP SP2.) but when I got to the
presentation site and hooked it to a projector it wouldn't work. Now
that I'm back in the office, it works again.

Why would PPT know, or care, what device it was viewed on?

Hello Richard,

This is justa thought but what version of PowerPoint was on the computer at
the presentation site? The previous versions of office do not have all the
pointer options that 2003 has.

Hope this helps

I carried my laptop to the site. Same version, same everything, except
the monitor. At home I use a 21" external monitor, at the site I used
projector.

Furthermore, after trying to change the pointer options, I could no
longer click hyperlinks to external files. I rebooted, and I could
then click the links, but if I tried to change the pointer options I
thereafter could not click on links. Instead of taking the link, it
just jumped to the next slide.

Were you using the same mouse (touchpad or whatever) you always use on your
laptop, or was it a remote of some sort you don't usually use?

Ah. I was using a wireless mouse on site, but a wired mouse in the
office.

On the other hand, I used the same wireless mouse two days earlier in
a different presentaiton and a different projector and it worked OK.

Can the presentation itself be a factor? The one that worked is new,
created under PPT 2003. The one that failed is years old and has been
migrated through numerous versions of PPT.

Well, I suppose it could be, but I would say if it ran fine with you when
you had a wired mouse in your office, it *should* run fine with a projector
attached. I'm thinking maybe there was a conflict with the particular
projector and wireless mouse, because what you described happening really
isn't usual behavior.

I wonder if it could also have been something as simple as low batteries in
the mouse. I've seen really bizarre stuff happen with remotes and wireless
mice, I tellya.
