I have a recreatable problem.
First: Open at least 2 or more documents
Second: Minimize all active documents
Third: Maximize 1 of the documents .... and watch Word
DISAPPEAR. (My heart sinks each time this happens.)

Upon restarting, the files are available for recovery, but
all modifications since the last Save are LOST.

I suspect you've encountered a bug in the Handwriting Recognition
services. Try the following:

- Open your Control Panel
- Open Regional and Language Settings
- Select the Language tab
- Click Details
- Remove Handwriting Recognition

I say: "Thank You" for the prompt responses. I can now
minimize and maximize my Word docs.

It took me awhile to locate the Handwriting application,
since it is not where you suggested, (rather it is in Text
Services)

This undoubtedly varies from version to version of Word (and Windows); I
believe Beth's solution was written for Word 2002 (and probably Windows XP).

Yep. The difference is the operating system and where the Language
Services are stored. My instructions are for Windows XP.

Which is why it is important to let us know your version of Word and
operating system when posting. ;-)
