Poor graphics on embedded avi movie files

AVI movies embedded in PowerPoint 2003 are choppy and play poorly on Toshiba
17" laptop. Same files work fine on Dell desktop running PowerPoint 2002.
Solutions?

Upgrade the memory in the Toshiba?? Shut down any apps you don't need.
Defrag the hard drive.
