Poor performance on Project Server

Thomas Pagel

Hi,

we have serious problems because of poor performance of our Project Server.

We have a Project Server with it's database running on a separate SQL
Server. Network connection is OK, server hardware is OK (all current
servers....)

The projects are all small (about 35 tasks, 15 resources) but it takes
minutes to load and save them. All resources are Enterprise resources.

Any idea we can do?

Rob,

there might be an issue with our resources. We only work with resources on a
department level, so we have only about 30 resources, but each resoure is
used in each project. So each resource has about 250 projects. If you open
one project, MS Project might want to recalculate the actual work of a
resource. That might come to checking all projects this resource has...
which is quite a lot of work...

Thanks,

Thomas

Thomas:

Having all resources on every project could explain the performance issue
you're having. This arrangement would certainly tax the system on opening a
plan. This is an atypical use of the system. I suggest that you initiate a
support incidence with Microsoft. Explain the situation and be persistent
until you get a hotfix and a fee waiver from them. I'd like to give you a KB
number, but I don't have one specific to your issue. Insist on obtaining the
latest performance-related patch available.
