"Pop up window" for Custom Properties in drawing??

J

JessicaRose

Is there a way to make a pop-up window appear, when the mouse is hovered over
an object in a drawing? What I want, is for the product description to
appear next to the object when I move my mouse over the object. This could
be taken from the custom properties.
I've seen some information on data graphics and callouts, but do not see
anything about the information only showing when the mouse hovers over the
object.
This is for Visio 2007 Pro

I am looking for the same info. I am not sure what you mean by the "help
facility." Could you please explain?

Visio menu Help -> Microsoft Office Visio Help and type
"tool tips" into the search box.

Make sure you are running Visio in developer mode which allows you access
to the shapesheet. Select the Visio object then right mouse click and open
the shapesheet. Once the shapesheet opens right mouse click on it and
place a check mark in the miscellaneous section, this will display this
section when the shapesheet is opened for this object. Under the
miscellaneous section locate the comment cell. Enter the desired text in
this field, it will display for a certain amount of time when the mouse
pointer is placed over the object.

Make sure you are running Visio in developer mode which allows you access
to the shapesheet.

Why does running in developer mode make any difference here? I have
various versions of Visio, even with developer mode off the shapesheet
option is still visible from the appropriate menus and from the
double-click behavior list.

In order for my steps to work as specified the user should have developer
mode enabled.

In order for my steps to work as specified the user should have developer
mode enabled.

But you could simplify the instructions as follows:

Select the Visio object then menu Window -> Show Shapesheet.
Once the shapesheet opens right mouse click on it and
place a check mark in the miscellaneous section, this will display
this section when the shapesheet is opened for this object. Under the
miscellaneous section locate the comment cell. Enter the desired text
in this field, it will display for a certain amount of time when the
mouse pointer is placed over the object.

No developer mode required at all.
Any difference? (Just enquiring)

Yes another way of displaying the shapesheet would be to use Paul's method
the choice is up to the user.
