Pop-Ups are Getting Intolerable

Even when I Preview in Browser I am getting them now. Also, my MSN page
keeps getting replaced by something called "Cool-Page.Com". This just
started about a week ago and won't quit even though I use Ad-Aware 6.0
everyday. I tried Spy-Bot and a couple of others but nothing seems to work.
Is there anything I can do in the Regristry, or anywhere else, to make them
go away, at least for awhile? Thanks.

Not a FP issue. You've got a virus that's causing it. Visit
www.symantec.com to check on it.

Steve and Tom,
Thanks for your suggestions. I did go to Symantec's site (just in case) and
let the Internet Security and Virus Checker run (both came back negative)
even though I have Norton AntiVirus 2003 running on my machine every night.
I delete the temporary internet and history files almost almost hourly now.

But even doing all that and running Ad-Aware 6.0 something has grabbed onto
my machine and I have no idea what it is. Any other ideas? (I do thank both
of you for trying to help).

Henry -

You might try bringing up the Windows Task Manager and checking under Processes
to see if you can identify the name and location of the culprit. That's worked
for me a couple of times.

Craig

Good idea and one I hadn't thought of. Thanks.

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks, but I copied this:
Your browser has been checked for many known parasites. None were found.
This is no guarantee that your machine is clean but it is a good start.

Try an Internet Explorer newsgroup

| I copied this from View Source from one of the pop-up ads:
| www.undergroundlair.net Then I went to the site and copied this: United
| States 24.174.27.9
|
| Anyone know anything about this?

One of my kids computer had the same problem, here is what
I did to resolve the issue.
1.Go to msconfig and remove check marks for software
automatically loading such as popup.exe, adbanner,
reminders and so on. (You will notice ones you never
loaded software for.)
2.when you restart do not go out to the Internet just yet.
3. In control panel remove software, there will be many of
these banner, popups ad-verts program loaded. Most will
warn you that free programs will not run correctly if you
remove.

4. Be very carefull to what you say yes to on the internet
especially free stuff that will load pop up ads as a way
for free programs.
