POP3 and IMAP

We are looking at Exchange / Outlook 2003 hosting for email and have a
question regarding multiple domain emails.

If we have 3 domains (A,B, and C for simplicity) can we get Exchange hosting
on domain A and still be able to pull POP3 emails on domains B and C thru
Outlook?

In other words, can Outlook 2003 pull Exchange hosted email for domain A AND
pull down POP3 email to the PC for domains B and C?

Yes.

Yes, but what does this have to do with IMAP? Typical Exchange connections
are via MAPI, not IMAP.

Brian,

Thanks for your reply.

So how would it work if we wanted all the emails for domain A to be kept in
one place (a hosted Exchange Server) and visible for an administrator while
still pulling the POP3 email from domains B and C?

Domain A emails would be on a server somewhere (I assume using IMAP) while
the other domain emails would be pulled down locally to the PC.

My boss wants to be able to keeps tabs on the sales guys on domain A but
still pull his other domains thru 1 Outlook 2003 client. See what I mean?

You have three accounts defined in the mail profile. Rules would sort the
mail from B and C into separate folders. Alternatively, he can have two
profiles: one to access the Exchange server and one to access accounts B and
C or he can have three mail profiles, one for each account. That way each
account can have a completely distinct message store. Switching profiles
requires stopping and restarting Outlook.

I wouldn't assume IMAP, I'd assume an Exchange account (MAPI).
