Port Error

I am unable to use my Groove space located at my work desk when I am at home.
I get a port error on 1492; The error states that the port is already in use
and to reboot to gain access to another port. However rebooting does not
correct the problem.
I have McCafee firewall at home. Is there something I need to configure to
permit Groove use at home?

Thanks,
weckenmc

Hi,

Groove use port 2492 natively, I don't know why it said 1492 is already in
use. Did you redirect Groove port? You should add Groove as an exception to
filewall or any anti-virus program.

Mason,

I typed in the incorrect number;I meant that I get the error with port 2492,
not 1492. I have McAfee firewall and have added the groove URL:
www.groove.net to my list of allowed URLs for access and cookies.
What else to I need to enable?

Hi,

You should add the application Groove.exe to your firewall or anti-virus
program. Because, port 2492 is used by Groove.exe to communication with other
Groove client or Groove server. Please, check.

Mason,

I added Groove.exe to my firewall, but still no success.
I still get the port 2492 error when I try to download my workspace
to home.

While Groove is supposed to use another port if 2492 is not available,
it might be useful to find out what program is using that port.

If you use TCPView from Sysinternals
(http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/TcpView.html), this will show you
all the network connections you have going.

You can save the output and post it here so we can hopefully identify
what the problem is.

Mark,

I installed the TCPView product and received the following info:
Process Protocol Local Address Remote Address State
Groove.exe:3548 UDP laptop:1058 *.*
Groove.exe:3548 UDP laptop:1059 *.*
Groove.exe:3548 UDP laptop:1211 *.*

I don't see port 2492 in use and I don't feel comfortable posting all the
ports
in this public forum for security reasons.

Any ideas?

I see three UDP lines, did you see any TCP ones? Here's a small section
of what I see.

Groove.exe:3128 TCP Mark_Live:2492 Mark_Live:0 LISTENING
Groove.exe:3128 TCP Mark_Live:9080 Mark_Live:0 LISTENING
Groove.exe:3128 TCP Mark_Live:1129 localhost:2492
ESTABLISHED
Groove.exe:3128 TCP Mark_Live:2492 localhost:1129
ESTABLISHED
Groove.exe:3128 TCP mark_live.home:2492 64.46.248.166:https
ESTABLISHED
Groove.exe:3128 TCP mark_live.home:2492 64.46.248.161:https
ESTABLISHED
Groove.exe:3128 TCP mark_live.home:2492
blugro1relay.groove.microsoft.com:2492 ESTABLISHED

Do you see anything similar?
