Portal look and feel of MS Project Server 2003

I am running MS Project 2003 Server on Windows 2000 Operating system.

I have a request to create management reporting "portal" which mean that I
strip most of the functionality and add some company specific look and feel.

Question: My understanding is that some part pf customization like webparts
just work on Windows Servewr 2003. After playing around I feel that maybe
customizing the ASP pages is the easiest approach.

Anyone done this ?
Is it a bad good approach ?
Any documentation available ?
Any other suggestions
