Portal Server / Project Server Installation

Hello, I am about to embark on my second attepmt of installing Portal Server
/ Priject Server. Earlier, I made an error in the spelling of the Portal
server in the Admin page for Project server, and it would not let me change
the name of this entry. I found this group only hours after I completed the
uninstall. Wouldnt you know. I ran a test install and thought I had it down,
but documentaion is sort of hard to find.

My Question:
In my first attempt, I followed the Mocroft Procedure for small scale
installation (A PDF from the Microsoft website). Is this the correct
approach?

Our organization had two servers:

#! Doman Server Windows 2000, running Exchange 2000 and SQL server 2000,
DNS, and IIS5.

#2 Windows 2003 Server, Larger Drive array File Server, will the Sharepoint
Portal Server, MS Project Server 2003, File Server.

We have 14 people in the company.

Portal server installation is a bit tricky with all the accounts that ned to
be created; I am educatioing myself on this one, Project Server istallation
seems more straight forward. I have picked up MS Project Inside Out, still
the EPM section does not cover the install.

Any suggestion on where to get further information would be helpful.

George:

SharePoint Portal Server is a product that you can use along side Project
Server, but does not integrate with it directly. If you mean to say Windows
SharePoint Services, that's what Project Server uses for documents, issues,
risks and project workspaces. So what specifically is your question?

Thanks for you reply, Gary,

The Procedure I am following is "Microsoft Office Project Server 2003
Small-Scale Installation Guide" located on the web at :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...39-18DB-466C-92EA-274FF72A04D0&displaylang=en

The above procedure specifies both Portal Server and Sharepoint Services to
be installed. Specifically, SPS would be used for indexing our uploaded
documents, which will be a necessary feature.

My question is, am I going down the correct path, or should I only be
installing sharepoint services? (PRO<->CON) The other features in Portal
Server are also attactive for our orgainzation, for we frequently share
technical ideas, and I do not want to buy a wiki solution since I already
have this product. So, I do not mind going the extra mile.
