Portfolio Server 2007 and Out-of-the-box Templates

Hiya,

We are setting up MS's EPM solution (Project Pro 2007. Project server
2007 and Portfolio server 2007) for evaluation...

The issue i have is that I can't seem to locate the "out-of-the-box"
templates that the documentation talks about.

It is all up and running and the integration with Project Server is
working. but i can't find any of the templates...

It maybe that I am just very confused and am missing something basic
but what I have is a blank Portfolio system. There are no templates
that I can see to use to seup a basic system for our senior managers
to look at...

What am i missing?

It may even be that when i did the install, i choose note to install
these but i can't remember being asked if this was the case and the
documentation makes no mention of installing these seperately. So all
i need to do is re-install... but thought I would ask before doing a
reinstall...

Thanks
Justin

Hi Justin,

I am not sure which documentation you are refereing to. Microsoft has
released a Project Portfolio Server 2007 Deployment Guide.

The reference to templates in that guide is the Default Mapping Template.
This is not installed but configured post implementation of Portfolio Server
to Integrate with Project Server 2007.

To define a defualt mapping template you will need to first Add a connection
with an instance or Project Server 2007.

Settings > Project Server Gateway >Project Server Management

Click Add and enter the connections details to your Project Server.

Once you have done that you can configure a Field Mapping Template which
will map Enterprise Fields with Attribite Fields.

To do this Go to
Settings > Project Server Gateway >Attribute Mapping Template Management >

You should see your above configured Proejct Server in the Server name drop
down list.

If your connection to Project Server has been done correctly you should see
a list Project attribuites that can be maaped with drop down lists enterprise
fields from Project Server.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Thanks for the reply!

Have done all that and the integration with Project server is ready
but there are quite a number of other areas to setup before importing
or creating a project/program etc in Portfolio Server.

The deployment guide doesn't mention them but the Product guide
does... or maybe i am reading more into what they are saying...
From the Project Portfolio Sever 2007 Product Guide, page 39 under
"benefits" is...
"
#2 Employ best practice methods.
Use out-of-the-box templates-such as a business driver library or risk
assessments-and embedded best practice methodologies to more
effectively manage project, program, and application portfolios across
the organization.
"

Some other documentation also talks about these templates being
available basically to get you started...

But when i go into any of the areas where you set this stuff up, it is
empty and there seeems to be no templates that I can use to start
with... Workflows is one area i was keen on having the templates so
could alter to suit our basic requirements...

Regards
Justin
