Porting office

I am about to install a new larger hard drive into my laptop as well as
upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP Pro. Is there any way to port Office 2003
programs from the old hard drive to the new one? I have a usb connection that
i can hook up the old hard drive to the computer.

Hi, DoubMcD,

Uninstall from the existing system and re-install after you install the new
hard drive. That is, by far, the cleanest way that I'm aware of. It will
also save you a lot of hassle--trying to "port" or move Office doesn't
usually work very well.

As I understand it, you can load the softweare 3 times. i have done so -
once on my laptop, once on my home desktop and once on my office desktop.
Therefore, no more loads left. How cn I reload it on my laptop when i install
a new ard drive an operating system from scratch - the hard drive is
reformatted. Hopefully there is some way to reload it on the laptop as it is
the ssame computer (almost).
Any suggestions? Thanks

Just install it normally as you would with the CD and also try to
activate it online. If activation fails, you will need to phone the MS
office in your country and explain to them what you have done. They
will almost certainly know if it is the same laptop and also help you
out. They don't kill people for reinstalling the software!!

For retail versions, 120 days is the time after which online activations
become automatic. For OEM versions you always have to phone.

Office 2003 Students and Teachers Edition is licensed for
non-commercial use only. Using it on your office desktop is

Then it's not licensed for installation on three computers, and
you're still using the software in violation of the End User
License Agreement.
