Portolio Analyzer Problems

Tom

I've been following various threads regarding OLAP builds
and portfolio analyzer and have tried the fixes noted
(updated MDAC, reinstalled active X) but have the
following problems:

1) the OLAP cube builds but with the 'errors that won't
effect the use of the cube' message. I understand that
you cannot use special characters in resource names,
project file names, etc. - in particular the comma. When
you add more than one resource to a task, a comma is
automatically placed between the names, does that impact
the cube? What about enterprise codes with a period in
the field name? Again, the RBS adds the period between
levels.

2) When I go to build a portfolio analyzer view, I can
only move the totals. Any other fields I click on or try
to drag don't move. I've noted this issue has been
mentioned before and i did update MDAC (2.8) but still no
success.

Thanks for any help.

You need to have Office Web Components and Office XP or
higher installed.

I'm using XP Pro with SP1 and MS XP Office SP2 - should I
also need to download and run the web components as an add
in?
Thanks

Yes. I think the file is something like OWC10.exe. In
order to author Portfoilio Reports, you must have the web
components installed on yur machine.

Hi Tom,

There is something else you can try - remove the PWA client components, and
have them reinstalled:

1. In IE, click Tools, Internet Options.
2. Click the Settings Button, under Temporary Internet Files on the General
tab.
3. Click the View Object button
4. The 2 files "Pj1XenuC Class" and "PjAdoInfoX Class" are the components;
right click them and select remove.
5. Now connect to the Project Server again and let the controls be
installed.

Thanks - I've now tried that, installed the OWC10.exe
file, reinstalled MDAC on the server and my client,
rebuilt the OLAP cube (still with errors), but still
cannot move anything but totals to the portfolio analyzer
grid. Very frustrating, and of course, the piece the
execs want!

To get this working for our Execs we finally had to
install a "2003" MS product on their machine. The easiest
one we had available to install was MS PRO 2003, even
thuogh they don't "need" it to do Project Mgmt work, it
allowed them to then manipulate these PA views. This is
wasting a lot of licenses of MS Pro 2003 and MS still says
it isn't needed, but it was the only workaround we had
available to us and it got us working. We are still
assessing a long term solution as to why we had to do this.
